13 March 2019 – The Government has confirmed that Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT comes into force from 1 April but there will be a light touch approach to penalties in the first year. Where businesses are doing their best to comply, there will be no penalties for late filing or non-compliant record keeping. MTD will not be extended to new taxes or businesses until at least 2021.
